During more than 25 years of clinical interviews and research with children, adolescents and adults who have ADHD, Dr. Thomas Brown has developed an expanded model to describe the complex cognitive functions impaired in ADHD. Do you know that ADHD = a particular kind of problem with executive function?

In this webinar, Dr. Brown will describe these six executive functions impaired by ADHD — and suggest strategies for helping your child or helping yourself improve skills in each area:

> Activation: organizing tasks and materials, estimating time, prioritizing tasks, and getting started on work tasks.

> Focus: focusing, sustaining focus, and shifting focus to tasks.

> Effort: regulating alertness, sustaining effort, and processing speed.

> Emotion: managing frustration and modulating emotions.

> Memory: utilizing working memory and accessing recall.

> Action: monitoring and regulating self-action (impulsivity).

About the Host

Dr. Brown is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine, and associate director of the Yale Clinic for Attention and Related Disorders. He is author of the book Smart but Stuck: Emotions in Teens and Adults with ADHD.
