You Don't Know What You Don't Know

A Connecting for Kids educational campaign designed to help our community understand that each child develops differently.

Why Educate?

Each day, families struggle with the community's perceptions of their children. When we don't understand, it's easy to make assumptions:

  • The little boy who can't keep his hands to himself - just a bad kid.
  • The little girl who stands alone on the playground - too shy.
  • The mom who gives her son medication - looking for an easy way out.
These families look a lot different when you put the assumptions aside and replace them with real understanding:
  • That little boy? He's still learning impulse control. His parents are working hard with him every day to help him manage his emotions.
  • That little girl? She's struggling with social skills. She attends a weekly social skills group and is learning to initiate conversations with her classmates.
  • That mom? She knows that her son needs the medication to balance the brain-based biological condition he was born with and help him to focus in school.

What We're Doing

Connecting for Kids has created six posters to help change those assumptions to understanding. Click on any of the thumbnail images below to see and share the full-sized posters, or click on the file names to download printable PDF files.

What Can You Do?

Help us get the word out by sharing these posters. Pin this page to Pinterest, share the posters on Facebook or Tweet - it's up to you. (Hint: You can easily share it by clicking the individual poster thumbnails!)

The more people who see this message, the better chance we have of creating understanding for children and families who struggle. After all, "you don't know what you don't know."
