Buddy Benches were the idea of an eight-year-old Pennsylvania student named Christian and have been used on playgrounds nationwide to help students make connections with their peers. Despite the good intentions behind Buddy Benches, many fall short of actually helping children because the supporting culture was not in place. The Connecting for Kids Beyond the Bench Training Program was designed by a pediatric psychologist and teaches students and school staff that there are many reasons why students use a Buddy Bench, including:
